30 Jul – Following the retraction of trailer for "The Gangster Squad" from running before films and on television, Apple's trailer site and YouTube due to a scene in which characters shoot sub-machine guns at moviegoers through the screen of Grauman's Chinese Theatre; Warner Brothers has officially confirmed a delayed release date for the film as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has decided to postpone the film from its original 7 September 2012 release date to 11 January 2013 in order to reshoot said scene, in the wake of the Aurora, Colorado massacre which claimed 12 lives. The new release date change was only announced by the studio late Wednesday, 25 July. The film will now go up against Paramount's 11 January's release, "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters", starring "The Bourne Legacy" star Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. "The Gangster Squad" follows the story of the Los Angeles police's efforts to control the Mafia in the '40s and '50s, included a climactic gun shootout that was filmed at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The scene is currently in discussions for a revision. "The Gangster Squad" is directed by Ruben Fleischer, written by Will Beall and featuring an ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn and Emma Stone.
