15 Jan – The Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA) has recently signed key partnerships with the world's third largest crowdfunding portal, Pozible and with the Motion Picture Association of Cambodia (MPAC). Launched at Screen Singapore in December last year, the new partnerships will enhance marketing and financing between creative projects in ASEAN. It will also add to the skill-exchange between producers situated in Southeast Asia. Through the partnership with Pozible, an Australian based platform, SAAVA members will be provided with additional privileges, which include lower fees and special marketing efforts. With MPAC, its members will have a chance to join as SAAVA members. There are also joint workshops planned by both associations. Further plans include fostering more co-productions between the countries and for SAAVA to provide assistance in the setting up of a Phnom Penh film institute.
Chhay Bora, film director and president of MPAC, says, "I first got to work with Gin Kai on our film "3.50". The project showed how a co-production that brings together the best efforts from different countries could produce incredible results." SAAVA will be working on two feature films. The first film is "SELFIE", a horror film to be produced in Cambodia. The second is a co-production between co-founder of SAAVA Chan Gin Kai and American producer Ross Campbell called "The 100 Yards", a faith-based NFL-themed sports movie. Both films will begin filming early 2015. (Photo source: saava.org)
