17 Oct – Coming to Capitol Theatre this weekend is "Miss Saigon: The 25th Anniversary Performance". The movie is a film version of the acclaimed musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil ('Les Misérables'), and was shot in front of a live audience at London's Prince Edward Theatre during the blockbuster musical's 25th anniversary performance. "As this was a filmed live performance, the orchestra and vocals were taken directly from the show's sound system – one take and no overdubs!" said Sir Cameron Mackintosh, producer of the musical and of the film, in a statement. "It was decided not to digitally remove the stage microphones to remind viewers this was a stage event rather than a film." Loosely based on Puccini's 'Madame Butterfly', the tale is set in 1975 Saigon, a young orphaned bar girl named Kim falls for an American GI but their love is not meant to be as their lives become torn apart by the fall of Saigon. The cast includes Jon Jon Briones as The Engineer, Eva Noblezada as Kim, Alistair Brammer as Chris, Hugh Maynard as John, Tamsin Carroll as Ellen and Rachelle Ann Go as Gigi. Original cast Jonathan Pryce, Lea Salonga and Simon Bowman will also join the 25th anniversary performance cast in a special finale. Tickets for the musical film are priced at SGD15 each. "Miss Saigon: The 25th Anniversary Performance" will be screened exclusively at Capitol Theatre on 22 and 23 October.
