22 Apr – Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) returns for its 27th edition this year, bringing with it a newly-introduced programme called New Waves. New Waves is a monthly series of dialogues that shines a spotlight on young filmmakers who are making waves through Southeast Asia. To be held every last Wednesday of the month, starting from April to August 2016, New Waves' free seating refundable tickets are available for SGD5 each via Peatix. The programme will be held at 8pm at Level 5, Scape Gallery. Filmmakers that will be participating are as follows: 27 April: Gladys Ng (in dialogue with Yu-Mei Balasingamchow) 25 May: He Shuming (in dialogue with Marc Nair) 29 June: Tan Jingliang (in dialogue with Adrianna Tan) 27 July: Chulayarnnon Siriphol (in dialogue with Chun Kai Qun) 31 August: Truong Minh Quy (in dialogue with Jennifer Teo) SGIFF has also opened its Call for Entry for Feature Films, Short Films, SGIFF Southeast Asian Film Lab and SGIFF Youth Jury & Critics Programme. Submissions for all close on 22 August 2016. For Feature Films and Short films, any entries made before 8 August will be free of charge. However, submissions from 8 to 22 August will be charged SGD25. Organised by the Singapore International Film Festival Ltd, SGIFF is the largest and longest-running film event in Singapore. It aims to showcase international films and provide a global platform for the best of Singapore cinema. Past winners of its Silver Screen Awards, a competition that aims to create awareness of the rich filmmaking talents throughout Asia and Southeast Asia, include filmmakers Boo Junfeng and K. Rajagopal, whose respective feature films will be representing Singapore at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
