15 Sep – A new film festival focusing on all things art will take place next month, courtesy of the National Gallery of Singapore. A relaunch of the museum's previous same-titled monthly series on Southeast Asian films, Painting with Light: International Festival of Films on Art is now turned into a month-long annual festival with its scope expanded to include international titles, according to its official website. Featuring over 30 award-winning feature-length and short films, the festival's screening will be held in four sections namely: films on institutions of art and their communities, films on artists and their interventions in society, screening of the museum's own commissioned omnibus followed by a public forum, and short films on the art and culture of Southeast Asia Among the highlight of the festival is experimental film "Manifesto", starring two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett. Directed by Julian Rosefeldt, the movie sees Blanchett performing 13 monologues paying homage to some of 20th century's most impassioned statements on art, which have revolutionised the present society's ways of seeing. Opening the film festival is the 2013 documentary "The New Rijksmuseum", which chronicles the 10-year-long renovation of the famous Dutch museum; this will also marks its first Southeast Asia screening. Painting with Light: International Festival of Films on Art will take place from 7 till 29 October 2017 at the Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium and Auditorium Anteroom.
