26 Dec – "Happy Death Day" director Christopher Landon is the latest person to announce his departure from "Scream VII", after the movie loses both of its two leads. Sharing the news on X on 24 December, Landon stated, "I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it's time to move on." "I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes' legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin created is something amazing and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow," he said.
It is noted that fans of the "Scream" reboot called for a boycott on the movie earlier after production company Spyglass decided to fire lead actress Melissa Barrera over her social media posts calling for a free Palestine that they somehow deemed "antisemitic". Following her firing, it was revealed that her co-star Jenna Ortega has also decided not to return for the seventh movie.
It is noted that the "Scream" franchise was given a fresh take with the 2022 movie as well as "Scream VI", which became a hit when it was released in March this year.
