11 Apr - Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are going to be immortalised in the form of a Raj and Simran statue in London.

It was recently revealed that the two characters from the hit Bollywood '90s movie, "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" will become the first Indian film to be honoured at London's "Scenes in the Square" movie trail.

It will be positioned on the eastern terrace outside the Odeon cinema, which is a fitting venue for the statue as the characters first cross paths at the Leicester Square.

"It's fantastic to have the opportunity to add to our trail Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, who are such titans of international cinema," said Mark Williams, deputy chief executive at Heart of London Business Alliance. "The statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood and a celebration of London's rich diversity."

The statue, which had been in development for five years, will be erected just in time for the film's 30th anniversary.

The film, which is still being screened in cinemas in some parts of India, stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as Raj and Simran, two young non-resident Indians, who fall in love during a vacation through Europe with their friends. However, Raj finds himself having to win over Simran's family so that they can marry after it was revealed that she has been promised to another.
