22 Feb – Another peculiar decision came from the National Censorship Board or Lembaga Penapisan Filem (LPF) of Malaysia earlier this week when the promotional movie poster for "Sex Drive" was banned, prompting its local distributor Tayangan Unggul to alter its offending elements.
According to the local distributor, the censors took exception to the depiction of a man, dressed in a mascot suit of an ordinary confectionery doughnut. It was understood that the comical mascot suit had a moustache and resembled private parts of the human body. Subsequently, the 'hairy' portion of the doughnut suit has been edited and done away with. Previously, another poster that was submitted for approval was also banned – one featuring a man lying down and an ordinary measuring meter, like those inside a car. This poster was also deemed too suggestive and inappropriate for local release.
"Sex Drive" is an upcoming 18SX-rated comedy about 18-year-old Ian Lafferty (Josh Zuckerman) who sets out on a cross country drive with his best friends Lance (Clark Duke) and Felicia (Amanda Crew), to lose his virginity to a red-hot babe he met on the Internet. Randy, raucous and unexpectedly romantic, "Sex Drive" follows three friends on the road trip of a lifetime. Cinema Online's special preview screening for "Sex Drive" is on 25 February 2009 at Cathay Cineleisure 9.30pm. "Sex Drive" opens on 26 February 2009.
