18 Aug – Daniel Craig ("James Bond" franchise) and Rooney Mara ("A Nightmare On Elm Street") have been cast in the lead roles of Columbia Pictures' three-picture Hollywood remake adaptation of Stieg Larsson's literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy under the direction of David Fincher. Daniel Craig will play the investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist, while Rooney Mara wins the role of troubled hacker Lisbeth Salander. "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" – the first film of the series, which also includes "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest" – begins shooting next month in Sweden. According to reports, the Swedish film adaption of the first book was released in Europe last year and became the highest grossing Swedish film in history and the highest-grossing film in Europe. Directed by Arden Oplev, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is currently showing in Singapore, while "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest" opens island-wide 16 September and 21 October, respectively. The story revolves around a young woman named Lisbeth Salander, a brilliant computer hacker who has a photographic memory, and a journalist named Mikael Blomkvist who recruits her to find a woman who has been missing for 40 years. David Fincher most recently directed this fall's much-anticipated "The Social Network" and is set to release in the U.S. on 1 October, Malaysia on 18 November and Singapore 30 December 2010. "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is set for worldwide release 21 December 2011!
