"Ip Man 3" crosses SGD5 million mark

"Ip Man 3" is a record-breaker in Singapore.

5 Jan – After breaking the record as the highest-grossing box office movie for a Chinese movie in a single day last Christmas, "Ip Man 3" has punched through yet another record.

The movie recently became the first ever Chinese movie to cross the SGD5 million mark in just 11 days, having now grossed SGD5.7 million.

The third instalment of the series, which was released back on 24 December 2015, is now looking to cross the SGD6.5 million mark.

On Christmas day, it made over SGD765,000, proving to be more popular among locals than the highly-anticipated space opera saga, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

It currently holds the top spot at the local weekend box office for the second consecutive week.

Due to its success, it is reported that producer Raymond Wong has voiced his interest in making a fourth outing for the franchise, though main actor Donnie Yen is unsure to return.

"Ip Man 3" stars Donnie Yen as the titular character, who this time around has to face a crooked property developer, played by former professional boxer Mike Tyson, and a Wing Chun rival, played by rising action star Max Zhang.
