17 Apr – Let it be known that the highly-anticipated eighth instalment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise is now Singapore's biggest weekend box office opening of 2017. "Fast and Furious 8", which came out on 13 April, beat the earlier local opening record held by "Beauty And The Beast"-a film which very recently reached USD1 billion at the global box office. "We are thrilled with the amazing box office results," the Managing Director of UIP Singapore, Flora Goh, says in a statement. "This just shows that the "Fast And Furious" fans have come all out to support and enjoy this 'insanely entertaining' film." The Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson-starrer has grossed over SGD3.9 million with 124 screens since its opening, surpassing the 4-Day opening box office of six of its prequels and following closely behind "Fast And Furious 7". At the global box office, "Fast And Furious 8" is the highest-grossing film in the worldwide opening category, collecting USD532.5 million and beating both of 2015's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (USD529 million) and "Jurassic World" (USD525.5 million). Not surprising as it has been the No. 1 film in the world this past weekend in over 65 territories. It is also the second biggest IMAX opening internationally, behind "Jurassic World", generating USD22.6 million on over 681 IMAX screens. "Fast And Furious 8" is currently showing in IMAX 3D, 3D and 2D in cinemas all over Singapore.
