12 Sep - Following "The Lion King" live-action movie release in 2019, Disney announced recently that there will be a prequel of the movie revolving around Simba's father, Mufasa. In an announcement made at the Disney's D23 Fan Expo, the studio revealed that the upcoming movie will be directed by Barry Jenkins and will tell the story of how Mufasa rose from humble beginnings to become the ruler of the Pridelands.
"I had to make this movie," said Jenkins, most known for the Mahershala Ali Oscar-winning movie, "Moonlight". "Because when I was 14, I was raising two nephews and there was a VHS tape that we watched about 95 times in the span of two days. I was thinking about Mufasa and how he becomes great... I am not a king, I am not a king... Mufasa is great because of the family and friends he has with him." "Mufasa: The Lion King" is set to be released sometime in 2024, along with other upcoming Disney and Pixar titles including "Snow White" and "Inside Out".
