19 Dec - In the usual case of the Oscars snubbing Asian movies, it was revealed that Thailand's "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" is the only Southeast Asian film that made it to the top 15 for the Academy Awards' Best International Film category.


The Pat Boonnitipat-helmed comedy drama made it through the top 15 list that is dominated by 11 European movies, one Palestinian film ("From Ground Zero"), and the single African film, "Dahomey" from Senegal.

"Santosh" is an all-Indian movie but represents the UK
Meanwhile, India's "Laapataa Ladies" was also snubbed, though it was still a win for India as "Santosh", which is directed by Sandhya Suri and stars all Indian actors, still made it into the list despite representing the United Kingdom.

"How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" has grossed USD 73.8 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Thai movie of 2024 domestically as well as other countries including Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand and the Philippines.

It stars Putthipong Assaratanakul as a university dropout low on money and volunteers to take care of his terminally ill grandmother (Usha Seamkhum) in the hope of pocketing an inheritance.
