17 Dec - After more than 50 years in showbiz, Madonna is still able to piss off many people with her shenanigans.

And the latest one, it seems, is through the use of AI.

On 13 December, the 66-year-old singer had fans crying with laughter and critics red with rage when she decided to share AI-generated photos of 'Pope Francis' touching her inappropriately on Instagram Story.

In one photo, where the pope hugs her with his nose pressed against her cheek, she wrote, "Going into the weekend like..."

In another photo where she is wearing a lacy corset while the pope is wrapping an arm around her waist, the singer wrote, "Feels good to be seen..."

The backlash was swift, with many in social media slamming the singer for the creepy photos and acting immature.

One posted, "This is insanely disrespectful and weird, and I am not even Christian."

Another wrote, "Ridiculously disrespectful."

Meanwhile, fans came to her defense, with one writing, ""What 'fans' are actually angry? We love her wicked sense of humour".

Angering the religious is something that Madonna seems to be good at since her early days in music. In 1989, the Vatican once suggested that people boycott Madonna's Blond Ambition World Tour due to her controversial "Like a Prayer" music video.
