20 Dec - Ryan Reynolds has been named one of the honorees of Canada's highest civil honor, the Order of Canada.

In a statement released by Governor General Mary Simon, she stated that "his far-reaching philanthropy continues to strengthen communities nationwide."


The actor is being honoured not only for his contributions to cinema but also for his charitable work with several organizations, including Water First Education, Covenant House Vancouver, and the Sick Kids Foundation.

Along with Reynolds, 87 other individuals have been appointed to the Order of Canada, including singer Heather Rankin and author Maureen Jennings.

In a previous interview discussing his heritage, Reynolds expressed, "I've always been proud of being Canadian. I feel like Canada is one of my parents. It taught me some core values that have come in handy weekly, if not daily, since I left home when I was 18 or 19 years old."
