12 Mar - Disney has recently won the case concerning "Moana" against Buck Woodall, who sued the company for copyright infringement.

Previously, the plaintiff filed the lawsuit in 2020, alleging that "Moana" has similarities to his own work, "Bucky the Wave Warriors" that he pitched to a person who was an assistant at a live-action production company on the Disney lot. These include the storyline of a teenager who defy their parents and set off on a dangerous journey to save a Polynesian island.

Other similarities include navigation by stars, a demigod with tattoos and survival of a storm at sea.

After two weeks of trial in a Los Angeles federal court, the eight-member jury found unanimously that Disney did not have access to the 2011 screenplay or earlier treatments.

It stated that since Disney did not have the access to the script, the question of whether the two works are similar did not need to be addressed.

Following the result, Disney spokesperson said, "We are incredibly proud of the collective work that went into the making of 'Moana' and are pleased that the jury found it had nothing to do with Plaintiff's works."
