20 Feb - Denis Villeneuve is planning to shoot the third instalment of "Dune" in the third quarter of 2025.

It was reported that the team is currently in pre-production for a summer start, though June will be reportedly too early for filming to begin.

The third film will be based on the 1969 Frank Herbert book, "Dune Messiah".

Back in 2023, Villeneuve said that the third film will serve as a conclusion to the trilogy, with the script being written as early as 2023. However, the filmmaker said that he would only make the third film if the second movie is successful.

"Dune: Part Two" made USD 700 million at the box office
"I want to make sure that if we go back there a third time, I want it to be good and I want it to be even better than Part Two," he said.

The second movie made USD 700 million at the global box office last year, earning Best Picture nominations amid four other nominations at the Academy Awards.

In "Dune Messiah", Paul "Muad'Dib" Atreides has ruled as Emperor for 12 years, but by accepting the role of messiah to the Fremen, he has unleashed a jihad which has conquered most of the known universe, but is powerless to stop the lethal excesses of the religious juggernaut he has created.
