Trio of directors unite for "3 Jalan" ensemble project

Mamat Khalid - "This time, my story will be a horror-comedy"

4 Aug - For the first time ever in the local movie scene, three prominent directors are to unite for a major release. Afdlin Shauki, Aziz M. Osman and Mamat Khalid will direct one segment each in a 3-in-1 movie entitled "3 Jalan".

According to Mamat Khalid, famous for his previous box-office comedies "Rock" and "Zombi Kampung Pisang", the project can is a good thing for the local film industry. He said: "I suggested the plan. It's time for local directors to start this approach. We are going to get together on the 15th of August to finalise the script for each segment. The filming is scheduled to begin this December."

Even though the ensemble approach is nothing new to cinema, it is definitely a fresh approach for local ambitions. Regionally, collective directorial efforts that have reached our cinemas recently include Hong Kong actioner "Triangle" (Oct 2007) with Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam and Johnnie To helming; and French drama "Paris Je T'Aime" (Feb 2008), which had some 22 prominent directors responsible for shooting 18 short vignettes.

"3 Jalan" is understood to be a "30-minute-each" directorial venture, with an estimated runtime of 90 minutes.
