Twilight is tops

Victoria – the vampire to look out for in the intended sequel "New Moon"

2 Dec – Opening a week later than its U.S. playdate, "Twilight" still topped the Malaysian box office for the weekend just gone (Nov 27-30), marginally outgrossing local fantasy sci-fi "Antoo Fighter". Both movies grossed an approximate RM 1 million in cinema collections.

According to distributor Tayangan Unggul, the curiously romantic "Twilight" is definitely a winner as it appeals to a great section of the audience, particularly the younger crowds.

At No.3, holiday-powered holdover "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" is of course still in the fray, outperforming the cumulative of sneak shows for "Bolt" in regular 2D and also the special 3D screenings at five designated venues.

The much-heralded "Quantum Of Solace" makes a big dip down the chart to No.6 although it is the highest-grossing holdover, having spent four weeks on wide release. Zombie picture "Quarantine" is just above James Bond at No.5.

Samuel L. Jackson's crime thriller "Lakeview Terrace" finds no favour from neither distributor nor cinema chain, making a limp debut with just five prints nationwide. The other worthy mention on the charts is inappropriately titled Hong Kong actioner "Beast Stalker", while popular musical "Mamma Mia" ends its run after an amazing 10 weeks at the cinemas.
