"Fresh Prince" actor passes away

2 Jan – James Avery, who is most known for the character of Uncle Phil in the popular comedy series "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" with Will Smith, has passed away on Tuesday night.

Through reports from TMZ, a source told Avery that he had passed on in a hospital in Los Angeles, United States. His wife, Barbara Avery was on his side at the time.

Previously, Avery had undergone an operation but it is unknown what for just yet, and his condition proved to be worse on Tuesday.

Avery, 68, played the uncle of Will Smith in the popular sitcom of the 1990s with fellow actor Alfonso Ribeiro, tweeted his condolences about the passing of his friend and colleague.

"I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly."

Avery had appeared in many other television shows since his time on the now classic "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", including "CSI", "That 70s Show", "The Closer", as well as appearances playing a judge on "L.A. Law".

Avery most recently landed a role in Zach Braff's new film "Wish I Was Here", which is slated to premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
