Gurmit Singh goes from contractor to discipline master

1 Apr – Best known for his titular role in Singaporean TV show "Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd", which ended its decade run in 2007, Gurmit Singh has since taken off his yellow boots to tackle more serious roles – a discipline master, for example.

That is the role Gurmit, according to a press release by Encore Films, will be taking on next in Kelvin Sng's upcoming movie, "Young & Fabulous".

Gurmit will be starring alongside comedian Henry Thia and veteran actress Quan Yi Fong. The main cast lineup also includes "Timeless Love" actor Aloysius Pang, Malaysian Internet sensation Joyce Chu and "Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen" star Joshua Tan.

Gurmit teams up once again with Kelvin Sng, whose directorial debut "Taxi! Taxi!" – 2013's third top grossing Chinese movie in Singapore – featured Gurmit in the lead role. Principal photography for "Young & Fabulous" is expected to start this 15 April; with a production budget of S$1.2 million, it is produced by Encore Films in collaboration with SIMF Management and Golden Village Pictures.

The movie tells of a coming-of-age story revolving around a group of teenage friends, who overcome all challenges and obstacles to fulfill their dreams. Through their secret cosplay hobby, they learn more about themselves, the meaning of friendships, parent-child, teacher-student relationships and the need to have the courage to stand up for what they believe in.

"Young & Fabulous" is slated for release in Singapore this November. It will subsequently be released in Brunei, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia.
