20 Mar – It was recently reported that an upcoming documentary entitled "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" is coming to HBO on May 4. The latest update reveals that the Brett Morgen film is now set for release on the big screen as well. Billboard reports that the documentary will be shown in Los Angeles, New York and Seattle cinemas beginning 24 April. This will qualify the movie for the next Academy Awards. Prior to the screening, the film will also be shown in 72 countries from 10 April, though the names of said countries have yet to be announced. It will also be released on DVD, which is coming soon in November. Morgen stated that within 90 days, "the whole world will have access to the film".
The documentary is an intimate life revelation of the late Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain, who took his own life at the age of 27. This is, however, not the first documentary to be made on the grunge band lead singer. Some of the past documentaries on Cobain include 2006's "Kurt Cobain: About a Son" and 1998's "Kurt & Courtney". Gus Van Sant's 2005 film "Last Days" was also loosely based on Cobain's life. "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" premiered at the Sundance International Film Festival last January. In February, it was shown at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival. It also played at the South by Southwest (SXSW) 2015 last week. Below is the trailer for "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck":
