Boo Junfeng returns to Cannes with second feature


Boo Junfeng's "Apprentice" is heading to Cannes.

16 Apr – Director Boo Junfeng is heading to the Cannes Film Festival again, this time with his second feature, "Apprentice".

The movie is part of the lineup under the Un Certain Regard section and will be competing for the Prize Un Certain Regard.

Starring Fir Rahman and veteran Malaysian actor Wan Hanafi Su, "Apprentice" follows a correctional officer who befriends the prison's chief executioner.

The psychological drama, executive produced by Eric Khoo ("Mee Pok Man", "In the Room") is slated for release in Singapore sometime this year.

Movies also to be screened under the same section include Fukada Kôji's "Fuchi Ni Tatsu" and Hirokazu Kore-Eda's "After The Storm".

The 32-year-old previously went to Cannes in 2010 with his first feature, "Sandcastle", which was part of the International Critics' Week.

The 69th Cannes Film Festival is happening from 11 to 22 May 2016.

"Apprentice" is set for release in cinemas on 30 June 2016.
