Seems like Keanu Reeves' fans in China will miss "John Wick 4"

28 Mar – It looks like Keanu Reeves has become another one of China's latest banned Hollywood stars, as the actor's movies were revealed to have been taken down from streaming platforms like Tencent Video and iQiyi.

Among the works that are currently unavailable on the said platforms include his two hit franchises, "The Matrix" and "John Wick", as well as his past popular movie, "Speed".

At the same time, it was reported that netizens are also unable to search for his English name and its Chinese translation on China's messaging service, WeChat.

No response has been given by both iQiyi and Tencent regarding the sudden removal of Reeves' works.

It is noted, however, that the "John Wick" star was heavily criticised by Chinese netizens earlier this year, after it was revealed that he planned to appear in the March concert organised by Tibet House US, a New York-based non-profit organisation founded at the request of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism.

China previously accused the Dalai Lama of instigating separatism in the Tibet region, choosing instead to appoint Panchen Lama as the highest religious figure in Tibet.

The boycott against the actor as well as the removal of his movies are now sparking questions as to whether "John Wick 4", a movie he starred with China's beloved martial arts actor Donnie Yen, will be released in China in the future.

There have been a few number of actors who have been banned by China due to their connection to the Dalai Lama, including devout Buddhist Richard Gere, "Seven Years in Tibet" star Brad Pitt, and Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk.
