16 Dec – Shaw Theatres will officially be opening its eighth cineplex come this 18 December 2014. Located at The Seletar Mall, it is the first in Shaw Theatres' concept of boutique neighbourhood cinemas. While the new venue may not be as large as other Shaw Theatre outlets, its eight halls will still feature the same wall-to-wall screens along with Dolby 7.1 Digital Surround Sound, luxury Figueras seats and ample legroom for the audience. According to Mr. Mark Shaw, Executive Vice President of Operations, this will also be Shaw Theatres' "first boothless cineplex featuring top-in-class Christie Solaria One+ projectors, ACT Digital Cinema Control systems and RealD 3D systems, the most comfortable and brightest 3D experience."
The cinema will be opened just in time for the screening of the month's biggest blockbuster, "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies". Prior to the cineplex's official opening, anticipating moviegoers are treated to a special promotion. The promotion runs from 15 to 17 December, during which there will be a three-day Open House and 500 pairs of tickets are given out daily. There will be another promotion after the opening, starting from 29 December 2014 to 30 January 2015. During the promotion period, moviegoers will be given free movie treats on weekdays.
