Jim Carrey joins "Kick-Ass" sequel

Jim Carrey is officially joining the cast of "Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall", playing Colonel Stars.

6 Sep – Two-time Golden Globe Award winner Jim Carrey is ready to don another superhero costume, this time for his new role as Colonel Stars in Jeff Wadlow's wacky superhero comedy sequel, "Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall", according to Metro.

Wadlow, who is taking over the director's seat from the original helmer of "Kick-Ass", Matthew Vaughn, for the sequel, hinted to fans on Twitter, "Six days till we start shooting... and we officially have our Colonel. Alrighty f'n then!"

According to Mark Millar, creator of the comic book "Kick-Ass", "We've been talking very informally about this for a little over two years now," when asked about his somewhat sudden decision to cast the 50-year-old comedian, who is reportedly a big fan of the first "Kick-Ass" film.

Jim Carrey has played a comic book character before, which was The Riddler in "Batman Forever".
"We didn't quite know what Jim was going to be doing in the sequel, but the entire team loves him to bits and I've been a fan since I first saw him," he added.

This will be the first time that Carrey has played a comic book character since his last appearance in "Batman Forever" as The Riddler back in 1995.

The sequel will also bring in new cast members like "Scrubs" actor Donald Faison as Doctor Gravity and John Leguizamo as Red Mist's bodyguard, Javier. Meanwhile, original cast members Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicholas Cage will return to reprise their roles in the second instalment of 2010's surprise box office hit.

"Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall" is set to begin shooting this month and will be released in June 2013.

On another related note, "The Mask" star has recently completed his work on Don Scardino's "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone", which also stars Olivia Wilde and Steve Carell.
