"Percy Jackson" leads the weekend box office again!

21 Aug – Defying all odds, just like the demigod himself, "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" managed to hook the top spot at Malaysia's box office last weekend (16 – 18 August) the second week in a row.

The film beat films like "The Conjuring", "Unbeatable", "The Smurfs 2", "Adnan Sempit 2" and even Disney's "Planes". The films all fall in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively.

"Planes", the new Disney Pixar films about a cropdusting plane with a fear of heights lives his dream of competing in a famous around-the-world aerial race, was expected to gain more at the box office. The film was also voiced by stars like Dane Cook and Priyanka Chopra.

Lee Daniels' "The Butler" gained the top spot at the U.S. weekend box office.

In the United States, "The Butler", starring Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker about a butler who had served eight presidents during his tenure as at the White House, the civil rights movement, Vietnam, and other major events affect this man's life, family, and American society, was well received and had gained the top spot at the box office last weekend, beating the likes of new films "Kick-Ass 2" and "Jobs".

In Singapore, "Elysium" starring Matt Damon ruled the weekend box office instead. The film, which also stars Jodie Foster and Shalrto Copley, gained audience's attention because of the action/fantasy feel to it and the out-of-this-world concept set in the year 2154.

Other new movies that opened over the weekend in Malaysia are " Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer", "Ainthu Ainthu Ainthu", "Last Summer", "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again" and " Gemeilia".

Other new movies that opened over the weekend in Singapore are "Tales From The Dark Part 2 ", "Tiny Times", "Behind The Candelabra", "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again", "Unbeatable" and "Killing Season".
