22 Jul – In a recent interview with Total Film, Dwayne Johnson slightly exposed his DC Comics role to the press which is hinted to be Shazam formerly known as Captain Marvel. During the press interview with Total Film regarding his upcoming movie, "Hercules", Dwayne Johnson revealed that he had been in discussion with Warner Bros for quite some time regarding the DC Comics character that he could play in one of DC Comics movie adaptation. "There's a character out there that we're going to announce soon. He has the power of Superman. And it's not the Green Lantern by the way. Believe me – Jon Stewart – he is a character who I wanted to play, but there was already a version of Green Lantern, and so now we've gone in a different direction. But this character has the power of Superman. He can throw down," said Johnson. Then he added with a grin, "Just say the word. That's all I'm going to say." Johnson last line gave a big hint to DC fans that the role he is playing will be Shazam. For those who are unfamiliar with this character, Shazam formerly known as Captain Marvel, is a boy named Billy Batson who can transform himself into a costumed man with Herculean strength and the power of flight (Superman-like character), by saying the magic word, "Shazam". Just say the word indeed. On another note, Shazam, previously referred to as Captain Marvel was renamed in 2012 due to legal conflicts over another character named Captain Marvel owned by Marvel Comics.
Also, previously DC Comics had always advertised Captain Marvel's adventures under the name "Shazam!" since 1973. Therefore, the superhero is often mistakenly referred to by his mentor's name, Shazam the Wizard, the one who grants Batson the ability to transform into a superhero. Because of this, in 2012, DC officially changed Captain Marvel's name to Shazam. Johnson is currently in-production of two films that are set to release in 2015; "San Andreas" and "Fast & Furious 7". Meanwhile, his latest movie, "Hercules" will be released in Malaysia on 24 July 2014.
