4 Jan – Comedic thriller "Unlucky Plaza", directed by Ken Kwek, is set to make its debut in the U.S. this month.

It was announced on the movie's official Facebook page that it will be screened in New York and Los Angeles, for one week only in each city.

From 8 to 14 January, the movie will play at New York's Cinema Village, where the director will also be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A session on the 9th.

From 15 to 21 January, Los Angeles' Laemmle Music Hall will play host to the movie next.

"Unlucky Plaza" is then headed to the Philippines afterward, having been picked up by one of the country's entertainment and distribution companies, Viva Films, according to Today, though the release date has yet to be set.

The movie stars Epy Quizon as Onassis Hernandez, who was once a proud owner of Singapore`s most popular Filipino restaurant. But a food poisoning scandal has left him on the brink of bankruptcy. When he takes a group of people hostage in a millionaire`s bungalow, he is captured on video and it sparks an international outcry.

Other cast includes veteran actors Adrian Pang and Judee Tan as well as Mediacorp host and actor Guo Liang.

"Unlucky Plaza" became the first Singaporean movie to open the Singapore Film Festival back in 2014. It made its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and has since travelled to many other film festivals.

At the International Film Festival Manhattan, Quizon bagged the Best Actor award while at the Tehran Jasmine Film Festival, Kwek was named Best Director.
