"Captain America" director to helm "Narnia" next

"The Chronicles of Narnia" returns with "The Silver Chair"!

27 Apr – It's been almost seven years since a Narnia movie has graced the silver screen – the last Narnia movie was "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader", released in December 2010.

The good news is, C.S. Lewis' Narnia series is getting a movie revival and it starts with a film adaptation of the fourth instalment of the "Narnia" books.

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair" is going to be helmed by Joe Johnston, as revealed on "The Chronicles of Narnia's" Facebook page.

"Joe is a wonderful storyteller who is equally at home in the biggest franchises and the most intimate character pieces," said producer Mark Gordon.

"Because C.S. Lewis' story is iconic and epic, but also tender, personal and emotional, he's the perfect choice to bring "The Silver Chair" to the screen."

Johnston has mostly directed action adventure movies such as the Robin Williams-starrer "Jumanji" and MCU's "Captain America: The First Avenger".

The stars of " The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" (L-R): Skandar Keynes as Edmund
Pevensie, Will Poulter as Eustace Scrubb and Georgie Henley as "Lucy Pevensie".

The first two Narnia movies, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian", were distributed by Disney. "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" was released under Fox.

The Mark Gordon Company and The C.S. Lewis Company took over the right back in 2013 and they announced plans for an adaptation of "The Silver Chair". Sony's Tristar picked up the project last year.

In an interview with Collider a few months before the TriStar deal, Gordon made it clear that he would not cross over "The Silver Chair" with any of the previous movies.

"No, it's all going to be a brand new franchise," he said. "All original. All original characters, different directors and an entire new team that this is coming from."

In Lewis' book, "The Silver Chair" is the fourth of seven instalments. It does not follow the Pevensie children, but focuses on their cousin, Eustace Scrubb. Eustice and his schoolmate, Jill Pole, travel to Narnia to rescue Prince Rilian, the son of Narnia's wizened ruler, King Caspian.

The movie will be scripted by David Magee, who is known for screenwriting the highly praised "Life of Pi". Mark Gordon, Vincent Sieber, Melvin Adams and Lewis' stepson, Douglas Gresham, are producing.

A release date is yet to be set for the film, but we will definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for it.
