24 May – It looks like Netflix has finally found its titular star for the upcoming live-action Addams Family series, "Wednesday". On 21 May, "The Babysitter: Killer Queen" actress Jenna Ortega posted a photo of her with the script of the upcoming show on social media, writing, "New chapter. Hope I can do Wednesday Addams justice. *snaps twice*".
The role of Wednesday Addams has been played by various actresses in various Addams Family adaptations through the years, though it was Christina Ricci who made the character famous through her performance in the 1991 film, "The Addams Family" and the 1993 sequel, "Addams Family Values" It was also rumoured that the upcoming Tim Burton project is looking to cast Ricci as the matriarch Morticia Addams, though no news about the casting has been announced since then.
Netflix reportedly described the series as a "sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery" where Wednesday, who possesses psychic abilities, tries to stop a villainous killing spree and solve a mystery involving her parents 25 years ago, all while growing up. It will mark Burton's first Netfliix project after the success of his many Gothic movies like "Corpse Bride", "Beetlejuice", "Edward Scissorhands",and "The Nightmare Before Christmas".
