22 Feb – A little good news is in store for Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, as it was revealed that the charges against them have been downgraded.

On 17 February, the Santa Fe District Attorney revealed that it has formally dropped the second of the two charges – firearm enhancement - following the motion filed by Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed's lawyers.



This means that the maximum sentences that the two are facing now is not five years of prison but 18 months.

"In order to avoid further litigious distractions by Mr. Baldwin and his attorneys, the District Attorney and the special prosecutor have removed the firearm enhancement to the involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of Halyna Hutchins on the Rust film set," Heather Brewer, spokesperson for the New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney, said in a statement.

"The prosecution's priority is securing justice, not securing billable hours for big-city attorneys."

Baldwin was formally charged late last month as both the actor and producer of the movie, following the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins from a bullet that was discharged by Baldwin and was loaded by Gutierrez-Reed.
