However, sources are claiming that it could be the role of Jadis, the White Witch, played by Tilda Swinton in the previous adaptation of the book series.

With 100 million copies sold worldwide, translated in more than 47 languages, the "Narnia" books have been adapted several times before for stage, TV and the big screen.

The most recent ones were the three movie adaptations, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (2005), "Prince Caspian" (2008) and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" (2010).

This will be Gerwig's first project since the successful "Barbie", which made USD 1.44 billion at the box office.

Meanwhile, the singer, real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison, will be performing on Glastonbury's second stage, or Other Stage. The festival will run from 25 to 29 June.
