The Good, the Bad and the Big Gun:

• This movie may seem a bit of a let-down for Balaji Mohan fans as it seems like the filmmaker who'd always produced thoughtful films has now gone commercial and has started making movies for the sake of entertainment and nothing more.

• However, it does not mean the movie is entirely bad. Dhanush gives off a pretty impressive performance as the titular Maari.

• There are some funny moments but there was really no character arc for Maari, giving the audience a flat main character. At the movie's climax, it was "told but not shown", the latter would've worked better at reeling the audience in.

Trivia:

• This time around, Balaji Mohan did not want his movie to be bilingual like his previous ones as he found the process difficult to shoot.
