9-year-old Buddy lives with his working class Protestant family in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Set in the 1960s during The Troubles, a civil war between the Protestants and the Catholics, Buddy watches as his neighbourhood grows more violent. Though he does his best to make friends, pursue the girl he fancies, and continue living a normal, happy childhood, everything he once thought he understood about life will soon prove to be wrong.
