18 Feb – Andrew Lau and Martin Scorsese will be working together for the first time after their sort-of history together with "The Departed". Scorsese had adapted the film from Lau's highly successful "Infernal Affairs" starring Tony Leung Chiu-Wai and Andy Lau. The latter's critically acclaimed film was a huge box office hit that made so many headlines that it attracted a Hollywood remake starring big names such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, as well as earning Scorsese an Oscar. Now, "The Departed" director will be picking up producing duties for crime drama "Revenge Of The Green Dragons" which Lau is set to direct. The plot of course revolves around gangsters, something which both directors are familiar with. But the setting this time, will be in New York.
The story is based on an article in The New Yorker about the Chinese-American underworld in the city. The film will focus on two Chinese immigrants who work their way up the ladder in the Green Dragons gang but are faced with a decision when one of them gets into trouble for getting embroiled in an affair. Production will begin this April in New York City. This will be Lau's second English-language film following thriller "The Flock" in 2008, a straight-to-DVD movie starring Richard Gere and Claire Danes. "Revenge Of The Green Dragons" will be released in 2014.
