Franco to direct "American Tabloid"

James Franco is set to direct and star in "American Tabloid".

23 Jan – Golden Globe award-winning actor James Franco is definitely one of the busiest men in Hollywood as the all-rounded artist is adding a new project to his repertoire by becoming the director and actor for the adaptation of James Ellroy's "American Tabloid", according to Huffington Post.

"We're going to do 'American Tabloid' by James Ellroy. It's not all put together yet, it's still early," said Franco in a recent interview with MTV.

Published way back in 1995, "American Tabloid" is a period novel that follows three law enforcement officers Pete Bondurant, Kemper Boyd and Ward Littell, who got involved with the mafia activities and CIA in the five years leading up to the historic and tragic assassination of the 35th president of the United States John F. Kennedy.

Ellroy's neo-noir pieces had been brought to the silver screen in films like "L.A. Confidential" (1997) and the star-studded "The Black Dahlia" (2006), which starred Josh Hartnett, Hilary Swank, Scarlett Johansson and Aaron Eckhart.

Franco was recently spotted at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, where he was promoting his three movies – porn drama "Lovelace", gay themed documentary "Kink" and his own art film "Interior. Leather Bar". The 34-year-old has caught people's attention with his recent filming escapades on erotic issues revolving around sex, pornography, bondage and discipline in those three productions.

"I wanted to explore real sex on film but in a way that was not pornographic, (but) was really about the behavior: the act as something that would reveal character or story," the actor-director explained.

Furthermore, this year fans will get to see Franco in Sam Raimi's "Oz: The Great And Powerful" alongside Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff, and also Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers", a story about four teenage girls who go for a vacation during their spring break but end up dealing with drugs.

"Oz: The Great And Powerful" will be released in Malaysia and Singapore on 7 March 2013.
