16 Aug – Bad news for movie downloaders in Singapore, if you did not pay for the downloaded copies of "Queen of the Desert" and "Fathers and Daughters", the rights owners of said movies are coming after you. QOTD Film Investment (QOTD) and Fathers & Daughters Nevada LLC (Fathers & Daughters) have served papers on Singtel, StarHub and M1, via Samuel Seow Law Corporation, according to Today Online. A pre-trial conference has also been scheduled today in the High Court. QOTD, which produced Nicole Kidman-starrer "Queen of the Desert", and Fathers & Daughters, owned by Voltage Pictures which produced the Russell Crowe-starrer "Fathers and Daughters", are named as the plaintiffs who will be suing the illegal downloaders. This is not the first time for the two companies to file lawsuits against the illegal downloaders of the two movies. Earlier this year, both went after internet users in the United States. According to Antonelli Law, whose services include "defending people who received an ISP notice of subpoena or a summons in a copyright infringement lawsuit" – as stated on its website, QOTD filed lawsuits in Arizona and Oregon while Fathers & Daughters filed lawsuits in Arizona and Michigan, accusing the defendants of copyright infringement by using software and the internet to obtain the movies without paying the appropriate license fee. This is the second of such case to happen in Singapore. Last year, internet users faced the same issue with "Dallas Buyers Club", also produced by Voltage Pictures. The Los Angeles-based company, represented by the same aforementioned law firm, succeeded in getting the same aforementioned telcos to turn over information of subscribers linked to the 500 identified Singapore Internet Protocol addresses.
