16 Nov – Fans have been patiently waiting for years now for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to make his superhero debut as Black Adam. Finally, the actor brought an update via his Instagram, sharing not only a concept art of the upcoming movie (also titled "Black Adam", of course) but also its release date. "Like most kids growing up, I dreamed about being a superhero. Having cool superpowers, fighting for what's right and always protecting the people," he posted, adding that it was at age 10 that he was first introduced to the greatest superhero of all time – Superman.
Fans have a couple more years of waiting though, since The Rock's "Black Adam" will only land in North American cinemas on 22 December 2021. Production on the movie is expected to begin in July 2020. The actor was first announced to play the role in 2008 and was expected to make his big screen debut as the protagonist in this year's "Shazam!", but it was later revealed that Black Adam will only make his debut in his own solo vehicle. While introduced in the comics as a supervillain and nemesis to Shazam, Black Adam has become more of an anti-hero over the years and if we're going by what The Rock posted about the character, the movie is leaning more towards portraying him as a superhero than a supervillain. There's another superhero that The Rock was supposed to be playing on the big screen. He first revealed in 2016 that he would be playing the world's first superhero, Doc Savage, but fast forward to 2018, he admitted that he didn't know if the movie was still happening due to rights issue. Maybe fans will get an update on this in a couple more years.
