"Ne Zha 2" breaks USD 1 billion in a single market


"Ne Zha 2" is China's top-grossing movie
13 Feb - The animated feature "Ne Zha 2" is quick in becoming the biggest Chinese New Year film of all time as it reached USD 1.2 billion at the box office.

The film, which is about a boy named Taiyi Zhenren who battles demons with his magical powers, has officially become the first movie in 2025 to achieve that feat, and holds the new record as China's highest grossing movie of all time.


It is noted that the record was previously held by 2021's "The Battle of Lake Changjin", which made around USD 900 million at the box office.

At the same time, the film also became the first movie ever to cross the 1 billion threshold in a single market, proving once and for all the importance of China market to the global film industry.

It is currently in the 27th place in the list of the highest grossing movies of all time, and sixth in the highest grossing animated movies of all time, besting "Incredibles 2" which has now dropped to seventh place.
