20 Dec - "The weekend before Christmas saw "TRON: Legacy" lighting up the box office and knocking off last week's chart topper "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" in North America, Singapore and Malaysia for the weekend just gone (16-19 Dec). The techno-fantasy blazed across the U.S. charts with US$43.6 million, but fell short of "Avatar"'s US$77 million first weekend or the "Star Trek" reboot's US$75.2 million, reports Box Office Mojo. The site also stated that it sold around two and a half times the number of tickets that the original 1982 "Tron" did in its first weekend. Apart from enticing moviegoers with its dazzling visual effects, three iconic TRON characters - Sam Flynn, Quorra and Siren – paraded at various locations within Singapore for the past one week, engaging the public's interest with the sci-fi flick. Meanwhile "Yogi Bear" opened Stateside with US$16.7 million, a fraction of what the first "Alvin And The Chipmunks" earned on the same weekend in 2007, but bigger than "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore"'s US$12.3 million. Distributed by Warner Bros, the pic-a-nic basket-stealing bear is set to play in Singapore on 23 December 2010 and Malaysia on 3 February 2011. In Malaysia, local distributor Tayangan Unggul revealed that horror-comedy "Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah" successfully garnered RM4.2 million within 11 days at the box office and continues to screen at 46 cinemas nationwide. Among other lesser films that debuted over the weekend include "Fair Game", "Aku Masih Dara", "Just Call Me Nobody", "Toonpur Ka Superhero", "Aattanayagan" and "Siddu Plus Two First Attempt".
